About Us

Welcome Detroit Innovation Academy families to an exciting new school year!

I would like to extend a special welcome to all of the new families joining DIA this year. I’d also like to thank all of our returning families for continuing to entrust us with your scholar’s education. I am honored to be your principal and look forward to another year watching your scholars learn and grow!

I am excited to be entering my third year as principal of Detroit Innovation Academy and my 13th year in education. Having been a part of DIA for the past 8 years now in different roles, I can say without a doubt that my favorite thing about Detroit Innovation Academy is our small community environment; tis enables us to be able to get to know all of our scholars personally and support them as they achieve their goals.

While the 2020-2021 school year was certainly a year to remember, I am so proud to have been a part of our school community during the height of the pandemic! Our students, staff, parents, and community did an outstanding job keeping each other safe and ending the school year strong with many successes. As we enter the 2021 – 2022 school year, we are thrilled to be reopening our campus and for our scholars to be returning to in-person instruction.

Together with our dedicated staff, we will continue to be guided by our mission to provide a stimulating and supportive environment that empowers scholars to reach academic excellence and to be leaders in the community.
Student success is attributed to the partnership and the relationships we build within our community; it truly does take a village and at DIA we value teamwork and collaboration! Education is a joint venture and we greatly appreciate the support you provide for your children at home and at school to help them meet their learning goals.

Communication between home and school is critical, especially during a time when circumstances can change overnight. I will provide information to parents via School Messenger phone, text and email as well as through Classroom DoJo posts, so please ensure your information is updated in PowerSchool and that you are connected to our school pages. If you need help updating this information, please contact our office staff and they will be sure to assist you.

I look forward to another great year with you and your child!

Best Regards,
Marina Hanna-Kaminski
